Why phonetic Urdu keyboards get it wrong
Converting Roman letters to Urdu sounds is a lookup table, and every phonetic keyboard does it correctly. The sounds are not the problem.
Urdu inherited its alphabet from Arabic and Persian, and kept letters that no longer sound different in Urdu. There are four ways to write the z-sound — ز ذ ض ظ — and three ways to write the s-sound — س ص ث. They are pronounced identically. Which one a word takes depends on whether it arrived from Arabic, from Persian, or from Sanskrit.
So when you type mazhab, the correct spelling is مذہب with ذ, not مزہب with ز — and nothing in the sound tells you that. Only knowing the word does. A phonetic converter has no way to know, so it picks a default and is wrong a good fraction of the time.

What is English to Urdu transliteration?
Writing Urdu words in Urdu script from the Roman spelling you typed. It is not translation: 'kitab' becomes کتاب, not 'book'. It converts how the word is written, not what it means.
How is this different from a phonetic Urdu keyboard?
A phonetic keyboard maps sounds to letters. That works until a sound has more than one possible letter. Urdu has four letters for the z-sound and three for the s-sound, and the correct one depends on whether the word came from Arabic, Persian or Sanskrit. This tool picks by word, not by sound.
Can I type Roman Urdu the way I text?
Yes. Ordinary Roman Urdu spelling is what it expects — 'aap kaise hain', 'kya haal hai'. You do not need a fixed scheme or special characters.
